How to know you are home

In the NOW.
Yeah.
Realizing that my home is the world's largest natural hair dryer,
In the ON position
In the driver's seat of my little car
we never, never get vinyl seats. Or leather--
You know why.
Seated on my fabric seats,
The AC blows
hot air across my body
and my necklace burns into my neck
ouch! ouch! ouch! Hold that little chain off the neck flesh,
it burns the fingers.
In the NOW.
The burning fingers.
Which is worse? Leave the chain on the neck (will it leave burn marks?) or burn the fingers
while I'm trying to drive.
Better to open the windows AND leave the so-called AC on?
Why not? Ouch! Ouch! The damn little plastic thing that opens the windows
Is burning into my finger tips!
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! and furthermore, there is NO DIFFERENCE
between the the outside air and the inside air.
Holy shit!
It's like a scene from Dante!
Those poor kids!
Can you BELIEVE high school is ALREADY in session. Those poor kids shlumfing home
along the sidewalks in the heat?
They are too beaten down by the heat to even try
to look cool.
I pass them in my personal easy-bake oven going south.
Yeah.

Help

the best piece you' ve ever written.
Bravo, Martha!!!!
Glad you like it Mimi! I think hangin' with the Gaiasters in Oregon raised my consciousness! :) Thank you for your encouragement.
This is wonderful Martha!
I just loved it!
Hi Aley! Lots of Love back at ya! Enjoy your cool patio! :)
Damnnnn, that’s like, hell man!
Why are they in school so soon? Can you learn in sticky conditions anyway?
Hi sherri! They're in school because of “year 'round school,” a hellish invention which is rather self-explanatory. It is the enemy of both athletic programs and family vacations. Oh well. They just keep crankin' that AC up, up, up!!!
Lord help us, it's so unnatural!
You'd probably get more done taking the kids to do swimming or something like that on those days! AC is not good.
I just started back working in a typical office environment and after day 1 I had a scratchy throat, I took a day off and went back, repeat above. Ok, I toughen up, mentally build my resistance. Then today I look in the mirror and see my skin already drying out.
It's so unnatural!
I don't know; our brains MUST HAVE evolved to come up with some better solutions than this. What's the last innovation in climate control since the air conditioner or the room heater? I really have no clue!
You be sooooo HOT Martha!

Here's my favourite HOT song: It makes Hot fun.

My 2 yr old grandchild Gracie says “it be hot!”
Great Mimi!
Now I'm dancin
Oh! You guys got me laughin' and dancin'! Hot Hot Hot!!! Hot Hot Hot!!!!
Sherri - sounds like the AC is dryin' you OUT! Hmm. Anybody got countermeasures? (You'd think I would, but I just take vitamins. I spend so much time in the AC, that I'm a “cold-house flower!”
JW! Yes, I am! :) And you are too, girl! Let's dance around with the doggies!
Aley! hahahahahahhahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaaha!!!!! Definitely a LOL thing there! LOVED that video! Thanks!
Mimi! Your video carries on the theme, and it's totally stuck in my mind today, or toastally, as it were… Thanks!
Tabasco anyone? Martha you're hot!
Aley that video is hilarious! lalalala with the dog!
Mimi, that is just cool. D'you know that song is a remake from a calypso song made here in the Caribbean in 1982? I'm partial to the original version, of course ;) hehehe [More useless trivia!]
Martha I just gots to moisturise and drink lots o' water. I could pop a window open in my office as well so that I can get some other air circulating. It don't mean I like it! I hate having to think sometimes lol
I'm off to shake a foot to the hawwwttttness at my disposal.
Peace and love to you, friends, sherri
Hey thanks sherri for that information. I was trying to find the original artists but couldn't find it on google. My cousin was married to a Jamaican and lived in Jamaica for many years. She remarried in Canada many years later and HOT HOT HOT was a dance favourite at her wedding reception, so it is etched in my memory.
Martha, you are Hot Hot Hot, and soooooo coooool at the same time. WhooHoo
OMG, Martha! What a great reminder of WHY I moved out of the desert to Oregon! I'm caught between laughing my head off, sympathizing with you in your “easy bake oven,” and actually feeling a little nostalgic for Arizona. Crazy huh?
In case I haven't told you in the last 24 hours, I'm so glad to have met you on the coast…so glad to have shared some food, music, conversation, laughter, creation, transformation with you at Glass House…so glad/so blessed to have you for a friend. Love ya, darlin.'
Briget! That image of the Tobasco Family is awesome!!! :) You rock!
Sherri, thanks for the original version of the song. I really like that one, too! It sounds a little lighter, to me… isn't it odd that sometimes we don't want to drink water? I wonder what's with that?
Mimi - the Canada-Jamaica connection! sounds way romantic…
Mamakat - I still wish we would have had more time to talk. Your daughters are so beautiful! So much of you is brought through them. Next time, my dear! Next time we get to talk more!
Martha!!! I am with you in the lower kitchen at the Glass House in Florence and we are discussing poetry. You shared a personal observation about your relationship with poetry … and this is why I'm so f'ing delighted by this hot hot hot EFFING HOT BLOG!!!!
you be the hot hot hot poetry goddess!!!
And talk about hot hot hot cannot go without Donna Summers
Aley - that was hysterical!!! You are posting some great videos!
Mimi - I recall my daughter and a friend (at age 8 or 9) discovering the song and creating their own dance and lip cinq to that song … one very hot hot hot summer!
Kat - yes, yes, yes … I too want more time with you!
BB … WOW! You have lots of warmth to share with all of us!
Hi sherri!!! Lots of people were talking about you in Florence! I need to send you a friend invite!
Martha I'm sending some cool NW Pacific breezes to you …. enjoy!!!
Yeh? That's exciting. I'm so excited!! I love that image of the Oregon Coast. I've got to get out there! Possily in April next year when I'm supposed to visit Vancouver.
The way the world is turning tho, you just never know when we'll share a physical space like the soul space we're occupying right now.
Hot hot hot hot STUFFFFF!
DS is my girl!
See y'all later! sherri
Hi Peri, Thank you for the lovely sea breezes. I took a deep breath. Just got out of the shower, and now I feel better. About the poetry… I really didn't feel like it was “poetry.” It was just a remembered set of things in the “now” that I wanted to capture. Like taking a mental video, and then recording it. I don't know why that was poetry. It just is what it is, I guess…
Sherri - Yep, the energies are really changing fast!!! Let's hang on together!!! :)
Oh Martha I love this…especially the line about the HS kids being too darn hot to try to look cool! Good grief school starts eartly there! Great work Martha…I enjoyed this immenlsey!
Hi Julia, Happy to see you! Say, did you notice that now the “comment” boxes say “Leave your Wise and Insightful Comment”? My god!
